This dramatic cove on the west coast of Corfu is one of the places claiming to be the place where Odysseus landed and found the lovely Princess Nausicca and her ladies washing their clothes.
If he arrived now he would find a wide choice of places to stay- all of high quality. The large hotel on the cliff top has been joined by several boutique establishments, set in attractive grounds and spread across the bay.
Ermones beach consists of sand and pebbles, ideal for all tastes and it is mostly characterized by its crystal clear waters. It is much preferred by the lovers of diving and the experienced swimmers as a unique diving centre operates at the beach offering a fascinating underwater experience.
Ermones village is a favourite place for golfers to stay as the golf course in the Ropa Valley is only a few minutes away, so they can indulge their hobby whilst other family members enjoy the clear blue sea or pool.
Two unspoilt villages in the neighbourhood which sit high on the hill overlooking the valley and are well worth exploring are Vatos and Giannades. Life in these villages has changed little in the last years, except for the addition of a bar or tavern where you can sit and relax while enjoying the view.
Ermones is also near two of Corfu’s loveliest beaches- Myrtiotissa, the small secluded bay which has attracted naturists for generations, and Glyfada- a mecca for many of the younger Corfiots who cluster in the beach bars in the evening to watch the sunset. Giali beach, one of the most beautiful and hidden beaches in Corfu is also located between Ermones & Giannades. Giali is surrounded by cliffs and its shore is covered with small pebbles, and so is its sea bed. You can easily guess the naming of Giali (which means glass in Greek) because of its purity and its clarity!
Walkers can use it as a base for exploring the west of the island- going to Liapades (home of the Cricketers Taverna), one of Corfu’s larger villages and with an enchanting cove, and Pelekas- the view from the Kaiser’s Throne viewpoint makes the climb worthwhile.
Some research before your holiday here will enrich your stay as there are many ‘secrets’ in the area for you to discover, unlike in some of the resorts which were developed earlier and display all their wares immediately!
